HERO and NOISE entries

“The Summoners Pack” a group consisting of four individuals who’s past are only known to themselves. Their pins allow them to summon noise creatures that have their own abilities and personality that reflects their users in one way or another.
They were chosen by the secret “Grimaldo” organization, a humanitarian agency funded by many governments. This organization desires to control the noise for their purposes starting with the elimination of the Reapers for their “interference with human lives.”
The people in charge of Grimaldo consider the Summoners Pack expendable, picking young kids they believe have no ideal future, promising them a better life after they “serve for the better of mankind.” They are to be their third test trial in eliminating noise and possibly defeating the reapers.

From left to right the Summoners Pack consist of

Toshiro Hakeem: Nicknamed Tosh he is the leader of the pack. Very calculated when he makes a decision, he can come off as cold at times but he does what he believes is best for the group. He puts himself in the front of everything when it comes to facing a challenge and does not like to leave the responsibility to someone else when it comes to getting something done.
He was a prodigy born into a wealthy life. However his parents constantly pushed him to be a success. They forced him into a sheltered life. This drove him to join a bad crowd that ended up drew him in to acts of vandalism, robbery, and larceny. His intelligence allowed him to take charge of the petty gang and convinced them to rob his parent’s home as a revenge act promising them money and valuables. Everything seemed to have gone according to plan but the next day he found out his father tried to stop one of his entourage from steeling a necklace. He was clubbed over the head and died of head trauma. Tosh full of guilt told the police. After his life was threatened by his former gang and charged with manslaughter, the Grimaldo’s offer of protection and avoidance of prison was a welcomed offer.
Toshiro loves to try new things and experiences and wishes to learn all that he can from the world he lives in.

Toshiro’s noise creature he calls “Big Mouth” fights with brutal physical attacks from it’s protruding mouths. Its attacks also consist of mental attacks that paralyze, confuse, cause fear, or even can steal a person’s free will. He has no vocabulary and only acts upon Toshiro’s commands making him easy to control.

Jane Lucia: She loves collecting cute stuffed animals and enjoys showing herself off trying to win over boys with her charm and looks.
A conniving young woman that enjoys parties but gets a joy out of manipulating others. Her beautiful appearance hides a dark nature, which makes her the least trust worthy of the group. After having an x-boyfriend falsely convicted of assault, manipulating a much older, but gullible, boyfriend to provide her with gifts that he could not afford leading him into debt. At the age of 16 a Grimaldo agent came across her after she was disowned by her single mother and thrown out into the street due to terminating a pregnancy she had after a one-night stand. They told her she had great potential with the deceptive nature she has and that it can be used for a better purpose.

Jane’s noise summon “Lei” has a deceptive nature all it’s own. She’ll whip an enemy with her tail that hides a long sharp barb or carve out her foe with her retractable claws. Her physical attacks are weak but her techniques make her unique. She has a powerful beam blast that can burn through most objects and she’ll gleefully expel daggers from her body in any direction. Lei acts the same way fighting an enemy as a child would playing with a new toy.

Deon Carmod: From the early days of school he was an outcast by his peers. Alone and alienated for most of his life, he found very few people to be considered as friends. He is very cynical when it comes to people in general, while he respects others for being who they are with no pre-conceived judgments, which he has had to constantly endure in his life. Possessing artistic talent Deon is a fan of manga and comic books.
Very quiet, Deon doesn’t have a problem with conversation but has a very hard time allowing any thoughts of speculation or ideas come through. Deon is very wise for a fifteen-year-old but depression took a strong hold on him. The medication that was supposed to help only made his condition worse which lead to an attempted suicide. He woke up in a hospital bed to find a Grimaldo agent over him that offered him a purpose that would make his life worth while. The agent promised him a new beginning and convinced Deon to join his ranks. They had Deon declared dead sending notice to his parents and little sister.

Deon’s noise summon is an agile creature named “Mogwai” that strikes with quick slash attacks in a attempt to keep his enemy from getting a fix on him. His hyper attacks are too fast for a human eye to see but wear him out quickly. He may appear sinister but really he is a friendly critter that has a curious nature as well as a good heart. Something Deon has a hard time showing.

Sherry Winsler: She hardly ever says a word. The youngest of the group, though no one knows her exact age, she is considered around six but has proven to have intelligence and capabilities three times her age. She was taken in by an orphanage after being found in a street ally terrified and abused.
Sherry was enrolled in foster care after no one claimed her. She proved to be a impossible child for the families to take in. Any loving approach by the foster parents was violently rejected. No one wanted to adopt her for she resisted to listen and would speak as little as possible.
After Sherry’s last family resorted to cruel methods to try and calm her she nearly shut down completely and would not eat for days. Child protective services brought her back to the foster home after receiving word from her neighbors. A Grimaldo agent posing as a potential parent adopted her, realizing the potential she carried, the agent won her confidence after showing her that they can give her the power so that no one can hurt her ever again or make her afraid.
The upbringing Sherry had to endure has left her little child like personality traits. She is very frightened to explore the unknown and relies on her Noise creature for comfort and security most of the time. The only member she feels safe around is Deon and he is the only one she’ll allow to come close and prefers to talk to him over anyone.

Sherry’s noise summon “Argus” is the strongest out of the pack. Though very timid, soft spoken and shy, he proves that he is a force to be reckoned with when confronting noise or other enemies. He becomes enraged if anyone dares to threaten Sherry directly. He is extremely protective of her when summoned and won’t let anyone get near her at all when around even with Deon. His eyes will glow red when driven into a frenzy. When that happens, anyone caught in his way will suffer his full strength.

I made multiple thumbnails for these characters and a few drafts for their descriptions. Sketched, inked, scanned, and colored with Photoshop CS2 and Corel Paint IX.
I wanted to create a group of characters that would add to the stories mystery. I knew from the beginning I wanted to have these tragic souls as a group of outcasts trying to make it better for themselves like many people who struggle to get by whether rich or poor. That almost always at some point people need a helping hand and should be able to depend on each other in order to achieve a goal or dream, small or big.
